    Download and extract the ZIP

    Extract it into a folder you will keep, such as Documents/xgoose. The folder you select must contain manifest.json.

    Turn on Developer mode

    Paste chrome://extensions/ into Chrome’s address bar, then turn on Developer mode in the upper right.

    Load the extracted folder

    Click Load unpacked and select the folder containing manifest.json, not the ZIP file. Keep this folder in place after installation.

To update, download the new ZIP, replace the files in the same folder, then click Reload on the xgoose card. Deleting the folder removes the extension.

    Drag the CRX from your file manager into the extensions page. Review the permissions and confirm Add extension.

Recent versions of Chrome may refuse CRX files from outside the store. If the drop does nothing or the package is reported as invalid, use the folder method.

A few things to know

Will it work in my browser?

These packages require Chromium 138 or newer and Manifest V3 support. QQ and 360 compatibility depends on their Chromium version and available extension features. Use an up-to-date Chrome if your browser cannot load the package or run skills.

How do updates work?

Chrome looks for updates on Google’s servers, which mainland China blocks, so this copy will not update itself. When this page lists a newer version, download it again and replace the folder contents or drag in the new CRX. Your settings stay because the extension ID does not change.

Can I keep my existing settings?

Yes when you update in place: both packages use the Chrome Web Store extension ID. Chrome keeps only one copy per ID, so if xgoose is already installed from the store you do not need these files.

Do I need a VPN after installing?

No for xgoose itself: downloads, sign-in and Hosted AI go through xgoose.org. If you connect your own AI provider, that provider must be reachable from your network.

Where did these files come from?

The CRX is downloaded unchanged from Google’s extension update service and keeps the store signature. The ZIP contains exactly the same files, with the store’s public key in manifest.json so the folder version keeps the store extension ID. Every website build checks both against the store signature.
